    Where are your soaps made?

    In Oakville, Ontario, Canada

    Why are organics so expensive?

When chemical fertilizers are used on plants they force the plant to grow and produce more useable material.  Also chemical pesticides are used to protect the plants.  This results in a larger crop with less work.

When a farm goes ORGANIC it doesn't use the chemical fertilizers nor the pesticides and the man hours required to keep the plants healthy are increased as well as the yields are smaller.  It takes at least 3 years before a farm can apply to be certified organic.  The inspectors will attend at the farm or in our case, at the place where we are manufacturing, to do a full inspection of records, conditions, fair trade practises, etc.  Farm soils are tested and retested.  The certification fees are paid yearly and are not small.  When you see a Certified Organic label on a product, you know that was created out of a passion to keep this world a healthier place for you to live, not out of greed for more income.

Do you use Lye in your soaps?

Yes.  Without lye you do not have soap.  When lye is added to the water and then the lye water is added to the base oils a chemical process takes place which is called saponification.  Once the process is complete the resulting soap is actually salt.  There is no lye left in properly processed and cured soaps.

    What are saponified oils?

Some soap makers say 'saponified oils' on their labels.  Saponification is the chemical process of turning oils, liquids (water, milk) and lye into another chemical which is actually a form of salt.  Saponified oils is a good thing.

I once overhead customers in a health store talking about the soaps and one customer said to the other, "Oh!  I don't buy that soap, it has saponified oils in it."  Now you are educated enough to know that saponified oils are exactly what you do want in your soap !

How long does it take to make soap?

In our case it takes 4 hours to make a batch of soap, but that isn't the whole process and the soap is not ready to use at that point in time.  That's how long it takes from the time we get the scales out to measure our amazing ingredients until we have put the soap to bed and cleaned up so our soap lab is ready to go again for more soap making.

    Are your soaps Certified Organic?

We are in the process of our certification through EcoCert.  We do not say our soaps are certified organic but when you see that USDA Certifiedlogo go onto our labels you'll know that we've passed all the inspections and paperwork. We've already paid our fees and had our first inspection!  Hopefully it won't be long now !
